MEET THE FOUNDER
I’m Ubaida Issah, a Registered Mental Health Nurse whose career has spanned NHS and independent services. Over time, I’ve seen many skilled clinicians reach a point where their current way of working no longer fits.
I’m a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with experience across NHS and independent services, including specialist assessment and service development work. That specialist and assessment-led work showed me early on how clinical skills can translate beyond traditional roles.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked alongside clinicians carrying huge responsibility, yet restricted by systems that don’t reflect their value or allow flexibility. Meaningful work, like good care, is never one-size-fits-all.
I’ve always been drawn to helping people recognise the value of their experience, and how it can evolve rather than be left behind. That’s why I founded Upwards Care: a consultancy dedicated to helping health professionals move forward with confidence, clarity, and strategy.

We work with experienced nurses, allied health professionals, and mental health practitioners who want to apply their clinical skills in remote or flexible roles, without stepping away from their expertise.
Many clinicians are not seeking to leave healthcare, but to find work offering fair pay, flexibility, and a better use of their clinical expertise. Upwards Care exists to make that transition possible.
Our work is informed by experience in specialist, assessment-led services, including neurodiversity, where flexible and remote models are already well established. This gives us a grounded, realistic perspective on what is available, what is achievable, and how to get there.
Through bespoke consultancy, we help professionals reposition clinical skills for remote roles, identify realistic opportunities, and create confident, sustainable pathways forward.
